How to use the envirovision picture library
Top of pageNew customers are welcome to view our public gallery. Professional users will benefit from additional images and website features by registering and logging in. We can then configure your account to provide the most appropriate settings for your intended usage. You will also need to register and log in to purchase images.
To register, click on the ‘Request Account’ button in the Log in box on the envirovision home page. A form will be displayed. Please take a few minutes to complete the form on line. In the business details box, please provide your job title, department, company or organisation name and address. In the supporting information box, please briefly outline your role and professional interest in the library and any supporting information (memberships/registered trainer etc.) You will also be asked to read and agree our terms and conditions. After checking the form carefully, click on the ‘Send’ button. If accepted you will be contacted using the email address supplied, confirming your user name and password. On future visits to the website simply enter your user name and password in the ‘Log in’ box on the home page and you will be able to access your configured settings. Where appropriate this will include any preserved lightboxes, account details etc.
Some options are available to non-professional purchasers, such as wildlife photographic prints. In this case please complete the registration process as above and state your preferences in the ‘Supporting Information’ box. We can then configure your website options accordingly.
Please keep your user name and password secure, and log out at the end of your session. This will prevent anyone else who may use your computer from operating your account.
If you forget your password, click on the ‘Lost Password’ button in the Log in box on the envirovision home page. Then enter your user name or email address. Your password will be emailed to you using the registered email address of your account.
Please keep your account details up to date. When logged in you can update some of your details in ‘My Account’. Please email other details, such as changes of address, so that we may update our records. You may also view past orders and access your current lightbox (for image licences) and basket (for prints and products) via the ‘My Account’ button.
Please note: To access certain features of the library you will need to be registered and logged in. Some settings may not be activated for your particular account.
Gallery page
The main categories of images in the library are featured on the gallery page. Clicking on one of the gallery pictures will display all of the thumbnail images in that category. This is useful for browsing, but bear in mind there may be other relevant images under another heading, as some images relate to several categories. You may browse the thumbnails here or use the search function to narrow your selection.
Clicking on an individual image will provide a preview image with picture information alongside, the Image Preview and Information screen. Additional icons and purchasing information will also be displayed.
Where downloads are enabled the relevant icons will also be displayed here.
Searching
A search will yield a more specific selection of images from which to choose. The search box on the home page enables a Public Library Search. This is a limited search of the public gallery.
When logged in as a registered user you can access the main search facilities using the search menu button. Simple searches can be undertaken using the General Library Search facility. Click on the search button and type in your chosen term, for example ‘food’. Using a more specific term such as ‘eggs’ will narrow your search.
Clicking on ‘exact phrase only’ will also focus the search. For example, entering ‘public health’ would normally produce images with keywords ‘public’ and ‘health’, whilst the exact phrase only facility will link the words together.
More specific searches can be made using the Advanced Search tool. Additional help on searching can be accessed via the ‘help’ or ‘search tips’ button in the search box.
To download and purchase rights to use images you will need to select a licence and place the selected image into a lightbox.
Choose an image and click on it to get to the Image Preview and Information screen. Go to the ‘Buy Downloads’ box. Adjust the ‘Select a Licence’ setting to display typical licences and prices. Click on your chosen licence option. Then click on ‘Add image to lightbox’. This will take you to a lightbox, which has two parts: (i) the Lightbox Image Details panel, containing a preview image, information about the original image file and licence details.
(ii) the Lightbox Contents panel, containing a summary of the images selected and the chosen licence for each.
Click ‘read’ or ‘read licence’ to display the full licence details in the licence viewer. This will include information about the rights you are purchasing, price and the maximum resolution at which you may download the image.
Single or multiple selections can also be placed in your lightbox by ticking the ‘Select picture’ box under the thumbnails and then clicking on ‘Add images to lightbox’ in the Buy Downloads box. Please check you have the appropriate licence selected.
You can remove individual images from your lightbox by clicking the ‘Remove’ button in the Lightbox Image Details panel. Multiple removals may be made in the Lightbox Contents panel by ticking the box adjacent to each image and clicking on ‘Remove Selected’ at the bottom of the panel.
To purchase images, check the contents of your lightbox and ensure you have selected an appropriate licence for each. Then click on ‘Continue to Checkout’ and follow the ecommerce instructions.
You can view your lightbox at any time by clicking on the ‘View Lightbox’ button above the thumbnails or in the Image and Preview Information screen. Alternatively use the link in ‘My Account’.
Licences
All images belong to envirovision and our licensors. When you purchase a licence you are purchasing the right to use a particular image in a specified way. Licences are typically priced depending on the type of usage, the geographical coverage and the extent or number of uses. Therefore the licence fee for a billboard advertising campaign would be significantly higher than that for a single editorial use of the same image in a local magazine with a limited distribution.
All licences currently available via this website give non-exclusive rights. This means that other customers can purchase the rights to use the same images. It may be possible to purchase a licence for exclusive rights to certain images if you want to be the sole user. This may be useful if you need to prevent a competitor using the same image, although the licence fee will be higher. An exclusive licence may relate to a specific geographical territory, time period or industry sector. If you require an exclusive licence please contact us to discuss the details.
Unless specifically mentioned, licences are for a single use. To use the image again you would need to purchase an additional licence. If you anticipate the need for repeated usage or cannot see a licence which meets your needs, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Model and property releases
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct permissions for your intended usage. Many of our pictures are taken for educational and editorial purposes. Therefore some do not have model or property releases. You will need these for certain uses, such as advertising. On request, we can contact photographers on your behalf to ask whether releases are available. It is your responsibility to check they meet your requirements. Currently none of our images are released for uses which may be considered to be controversial, sensitive subjects or defamation. We do not supply images for uses such as tobacco or alcohol advertising. If you need to illustrate a sensitive subject, such as drug use, alcohol or depression we may be able to provide a specially set up shot with enhanced model releases. Their use would be conditional upon certain associated descriptions to ensure that the model was not portrayed in a negative light.
Top of pageSome users may wish to purchase prints or other products and this may be enabled for certain files.
To order products you will need to place them in a basket, as follows:
Choose and click on an image to go to the Image Preview and Information screen. In the ‘Buy Products’ panel, select the product required from the drop down menu. Click ‘Add to basket’.
Alternatively, multiple images may be placed in the basket direct from the thumbnails. First ensure the ‘Buy Downloads/Buy Products’ button is set to ‘Buy Products’ and select the type of product required. Then tick the ‘Select picture’ box under each thumbnail required and click ‘Add images to basket’.
In the basket there will be a summary of the images chosen, product selected, crop option, attributes, quantities, prices and an option to remove any image no longer required.
If the image size is different in proportion to the paper/product size you can choose to crop the image. This will trim the picture so that it covers the whole of the printable area. If you require the whole image un-cropped, do not select ‘Crop’. This may mean that margins are left around the image on the final product. Indications of the crop settings are shown as red lines on the thumbnail pictures.
Some products have additional options to choose from, for example gloss or matt prints.
Please check your order carefully and click on ‘Checkout Now’. You will then be asked to complete and confirm your invoice and delivery details. Please check and click ‘Proceed’ to continue the sale. Thereafter you will be asked to enter your payment details and complete your order.
You can check the contents of your basket using ‘View Basket’ in the thumbnails screen or the Image Preview and Information screen. Alternatively use the link in ‘My Account’.
Top of pageCard payments are processed by ‘Third Light’, using their ecommerce facilities. Unfortunately we cannot take credit card payments over the telephone.
